Art is not just in the product, but in the production.
Exhibit A: Riusuke Fukahori, a Japanese artist who paints three-dimensional goldfish using a paint- and resin-layering technique. The result is beautiful, but watching him “construct paintings” is distinctly beautiful.
[Exhibit B: Steve Jobs, whose biography I am reading, was apparently quite preoccupied with the idea of the aesthetics of production. The book (Walter Isaacson’s) presents a nice, in-depth-like perspective, but I wish it were written a bit more tightly.]
