Roll like an Egyptian

The Met will play host to an enormous statue of a pharaoh, visiting (on loan) from the Egyptian Museum of Berlin, for the next 10 years. Tipping the scales at over 9 tons, the stone Amenemhat II “will lie on its back in an enormous crate on what Met officials describe as ‘high-tech wheels’ and be moved through the galleries to the Great Hall.”

I suppose, with the imminent departure of McQueen’s “Savage Beauty” exhibition (which maybe I should do a post on…), the Met had to secure a literal giant of the art world. Welcome to NYC, pharaoh.
